SS09 Hair Trends

"My key influences for spring/ summer 09 are the loose victory rolls that graced the catwalks at Proenza Schouler and Yves Saint Laurent. The gentle, soft movement creates a relaxed, yet sophisticated style in keeping with the 40's inspired trends."

1940's Revival - Key Trend: Victory Rolls
1940

This style was traditionally created with rollers and pin curls, but if you're short on time a heated curling tong can create the same effect.

1. Blow dry freshly washed hair with Texture Expert Smooth Velours thermo blow-dry milk and comb a deep side parting.
2. Section off a part of hair on each side, starting behind the ear and angled up to the top of the head.
3. Wrap each section in turn around the barrel of a curling iron then gently brush though.
4. Starting with the larger section use a brush to smooth hair up and back then wrap around your finger to create a tube shape.
5. Secure with Kirby grips and Texture Expert Fixing Mist 4 hairspray, finished rolls should be higher in front and blend in with the rest of your hair in back.
6. Repeat with the other the other section of hair.
Modern Elegance - Key Trend: Rockabilly Quiff
Modern Elegance

This Spring wearing your hair up is a simple way to capture the latest trends. Grecian inspired side twists were seen at Carolina Herrera; tight, sleek buns at Jonathan Saunders and distressed texture at Tracy Reese.

For an elegant, 1950's style try a rockabilly quiff. The style is ideal for wearing hair whilst growing out shorter styles, or covering a bad hair day!
1. Blow-dry hair with Texture Expert Expansion Mousse for a light foundation
2. Section off the piece of your hair at the centre-front - where a fringe would be.
3. Secure your remaining hair in a simple bun at the back of your head.
4. Create root lift for your quiff by back combing, then twist up to create a quiff shape.
5. Tuck the ends under the quiff to avoid looking messy and keep in place with Kirby grips and Texture Expert Fixing Mist 4.
Rock & Roll Fringe - Key Trend: Thick Side Fringe
Rock & Roll Fringe
Fringes will remain a big trend, both long and thick or heavy side fringes. Worn with volume and rock chic attitude at Chloe and long sweeping neat fringes were seen at L'Wren Scott.
1. Apply Texture Expert Lumicontrôle to hair to create texture and add definition before blow-drying
2. Sweep hair loosely to one side with fingers, leaving one eyebrow exposed.
Equestrian Classic - Key Trend: Classic Ponytail
Equestrian Classic

Simple, groomed plaits and ponytails will be a big trend this spring as seen at Lacoste and Luella. In keeping with the theme of wearing your hair up, the plait and ponytail is a simple and effective method of capturing the style.

To keep your hair looking healthy and glossy use an intensive conditioning treatment such as Daniel Galvin Salon Intensive Conditioning Treatment (£22).

The classic ponytail is a simple yet stunning trend this season.
1. Blow dry hair fully leaving any natural waves or movement and smooth through an anti frizz product such as Texture Expert Shine Perfection blow-dry serum with anti-frizz and humidity protection
2. Tip your head back slightly and gather hair together at the centre back of your head.
3. Secure with a band and smooth any flyaway hair with Texture Expert Fixing Mist 4 for a satin shine result.
Modern Day Classic Cuts - Key Trend: The Bob
Modern Day Classic

The bob is here to stay for another season, from clean graphical shapes to classic cuts with texture and movement. For shorter hair, pixie crops are great and very low maintenance.

The Bob has become an iconic hairstyle and has recently celebrated its 70 year anniversary. The face flattering shape and neck elongating length has made it a continuous favourite style.
Speak to your stylist about which shape suits your face shape and hair type. Clean, modern shapes as well as layered styles will be fashionable this spring and summer.
