Shape, condition and colour must all work together

Hair shape

One of the most important things to remember is that not all long hair suits everyone, but the shape can be created in long hair to suit everybody. Whether you put shape around the face, whether you add a fringe, whether you add curtain bangs, whether you add soft layers. Layers can add movement and dimension to long hair, which is especially beneficial for fine or thinning hair. Face-framing layers can also soften the jawline and draw attention to the eyes

Hair condition

In our 40s and 50s, our hair tends to be a little bit drier in texture. Whether it’s changing gray or becoming a little bit more porous, it’s really important that you concentrate on the condition. To maintain length and prevent split ends, get a trim about every eight weeks. This keeps the style looking fresh and prevents it from growing out completely, like “re-touching that perfect style”.

The beginning of the second hair colour boom 1980’s

Daniel Galvin the top English Colourist travelled to Japan and generously taught groundbreaking techniques and ways of thinking that were not available in the Japanese beauty industry.

In the 1990s Hideo Imai & Eizo Kakimoto top Japanese hairdressers used hair color to express peopleʼs diversifying values and individuality. They advocated hair design that adds three-dimensionality with hair colour, and had a major impact on the beauty industry, which was in need of proposals for modelling beauty next to cutting and perms.

Their work has changed the face of salon colour in Japan today.

Around 1980 (Showa 55) to 2000 (Heisei 12) second boom

The bubble economy that began in 1986 (Showa 61) ended about five years later, and Japan entered an economic downturn and prolonged recession known as the “lost decade.” The second hair color boom took place under these social conditions. The options of coloring oneʼs own hair with consumer products or having it professionally done had been established, and the synergistic effect of the two greatly expanded the range of hair color choices for Japanese people, who had always aimed to have black hair.

Acidic hair dye with less damage to hair arrives

One-length hairstyles were very popular in the 1980s and early 1990s. Straight hair emphasizes the flow of black hair. Against the backdrop of this trend, acidic hair dyes, which can both add shine and complementary color to hair, became popular in beauty salons from around 1985 (Showa 60).

A catalyst for diverse hair colour choices… The Equal Employment Opportunity Law

The enactment of the Equal Employment Opportunity Law in 1986 (Showa 61) dramatically accelerated the social advancement of women. Women who had the opportunity to interact with society began to express themselves more actively, and hairstyles changed from “cut and perm” to a lighter “cut and dry” style. Along with that, hair colors became lighter.

Gary Price, Daniel Galvin’s Wig Director is invited back again as a main speaker at the Get Ahead of Hair Loss event this September. The one-day event based at the Royal Society of Medicine 1 Wimpole Street in London is designed to dispel the myths surrounding hair loss. Gary will be speaking about the state of wig provision in the UK, how you can get one and the different types that are available.

Stephen Nurse the operations director at Daniel Galvin is also part of the event, he will be sharing his expertise in the Style Solutions For Professionals session. It covers how to take the stress out of any consultation with the right language, style solutions and treatments. He will be among other top hairdressers including Andrew Barton, Jamie Stevens and Inanch Emir (celebrity hair extensionist) who will cover hair loss styling advice for all ages men and women with different hair types.

Daniel Galvin welcomes Takuya Morimoto an award winning stylist from Japan. Takuya brings a fusion of Japanese culture & the skills of a long-standing senior stylist at the top of hairdressing in London. He is a key hairstylist at London Fashion Week and numerous shows around the globe. Takuya’s hairdressing has been featured in Vogue, Elle and Harper’s Bazaar to highlight a few. He was awarded Creative Head’s “The IT Guy 2013″.
